Hit the road.
It is hard for me to talk about this project without getting VERY happy and also cursing like I’m getting a body wax. I think anyone who has taken on a vintage trailer renovation will tell you the same thing. It is absolutely incredible and a HUGE pain in the ass. Even with hiring a contractor and having a somewhat sizable budget… this project has been a lot. What was I expecting? I bought a 50 year old tin can that is roughly the size of a bus. I paid almost nothing for it so was I really expecting we could pound it out in 2 months and hit the road? It shouldnt be a surprise to me that after purchasing this beauty in April of 2019, that in January of 2021 it is still not completed. Eventually I hope that this will be a place where I can post all of our adventures! But for now, I will indulge you all with the story of how we came to be airstream owners. I will also teach you how to give a contractor a complete nervous breakdown… because with almost every place in the trailer being rounded rather than square, this project was beyond just being custom. Every cut of wood, every cabinet, every wire had to be fabricated especially for this project. These stories will be a source of inspiration and a cautionary tale all in one!
